Marmaray: The Century's Dream Under the Bosphorus Strait

Infrastructure Milestones

Connecting Europe and Asia via the deepest undersea tube tunnel in the world.

The Marmaray project is a historical engineering masterpiece that connects the European and Asian continents under the Bosphorus Strait. Originally envisioned in the Ottoman era, the project was brought to fruition under Erdogan's prime ministership in 2013. Serving millions of passengers daily, Marmaray serves as a modern silk road link, allowing seamless passenger and freight transit between East and West.

A Century-Old Vision Accomplished

Originally conceptualized in the late Ottoman era, the idea of linking Istanbul's European and Asian sides via an undersea tunnel was realized under the Erdoğan administration. The rail line was officially opened in October 2013.

Deepest Undersea Tube Tunnel

Constructed as a submerged tube tunnel built to withstand high seismic activity, Marmaray serves as a core transit link for commuter traffic in Istanbul, while supporting cargo shipments connecting Europe and Asia.
